The article describes the organizational pre-arrangements for the XIV International Young Scholars’ Conference ‘Traditions and Innovations in the Modern Russian Legal System’ and the complex of measures undertaken to improve the quality of reports on law issues, delivered by student participants within Legal English Panel I. The major improvement measures were aimed at furthering the students’ public speech skills, eliminating mistakes in the written submissions, and enhancing the quality of research through building up cooperation with law teachers. Each stage of preparing included consultations with lawyers. The article also mentions certain administrative measures that will attract more talented students to work at our Panel. The article quotes comparative statistics on the reports of 2014 and 2015. Special attention was paid to assessing the students’ reports by the means of specifically elaborated assessment list, which included five assessment criteria: first − delivery and general impression, second – slideshow quality, third – the language of the report, fourth – the content of the report, fifth − after-speech discussion. The article gives a detailed description of the scope of each criterion and the score intervals, assigned to particular criteria. This year’s important guests of the Panel Session were entirely satisfied with the quality of individual speeches and the overall progress the Panel.
